Stage Personae Embodied

Most of what we see embodied in stage personae is representational of this universal component, I reckon. A bit like seeing other stereotypes or archetypes on stage. If I see an actor playing Hamlet, I never believe I am seeing an actual king. But when folks see an actor doing "like clown" they often say "he is a clown." Bizarre.well, the persona may be a clown, within the play, but whether or not the individual is clown depends on this state of mind-spirit consciousness, I reckon. It is a vibe, a feeling which manifests action from more than just intellectual ideas and decisions, or "comic formula" if you will. That for me equates to comic acting....and that is a very common and present tool in clowning. But in and of itself is not what clown is, to me. Clown has no duty to make anyone laugh. But of course when we encounter the clown, we laugh, we feel many things...and the most profound laugh is the laugh of illumination, of realization...this is the kind of "higher consciousness" laughter I feel is the base of many old traditions. Jokes, puns, other tools are instruments which can help, in the right setting, to open the collective consciousness and restore balance...

Clown healing traditions

Clown in its ancient history also crosses in many ways with healing traditions....in the very old civilizations, golden age civilizations, there was a much deeper understanding of the unification of science, art, philosophy, religion, medicine, mathematics....they were not separate disciplines...a true edict was able to mesh the sacred arts, the sacred sciences into one working principle...so that space, architecture, atmosphere, rhythm, music, timing, emotion, emergence of emotion, spirit of being..all things were embedded in all aspects of the physical...and this unlocked the sense of one's metaphysical relationship with the greater universe. We are the substance of the universe....not just abstract thought machines. In our present day, we are not in this kind of conscious awareness, we are far more obsessed with material things, superficial gain and so on..."i do and so I expect a return on my investment," etc...this potlatching corrupts in many ways the elegance of our simplicity. And perhaps more than ever, we crave Clown. We "get" it deep down in our deeper sense of self...and it is marvelous to encounter, to connect, to be in the flow of our natural non-linear tendency....and of course, laughter is potent on so many levels. And it is also worth considering that there are many many different kinds of laughter. But laughter is not the only path to self discovery.
