Steven Spielberg casting call: 6-9 YEAR OLD BOY ITALIAN or JEWISH

Reaching out to friends and family first, please email Carly, the casting associate as mentioned below. About a boy who is/seems very smart and can engage talks with the Pope, played by Mark Ryland. Say Carlo from the guild of Italian American actors told you. No $ for me, just tells Casting you got legit lead.
Please contact Carly the casting associate directly as per directions below.
    Thanks - Carlo

    Hi Carlo,

Per my voicemail, we're currently casting Steven Spielberg's new film and we're conducting a search for an extraordinary boy to play the very challenging lead role.

    ABOUT THE FILM:
Steven Spielberg is making a film about the true story of Edgardo Mortara - a 6 year old Jewish boy from Bologna who was reported to have been secretly baptised by a maid, and was deemed by the Catholic Church therefore to be Christian.  Pope Pius IX (to be played by MARK RYLANCE) decreed that the boy could not remain with his Jewish family. He was seized by the Papal State and taken to the Vatican where his indoctrination into catholicism began. Despite his parents’ desperate pleas for his return,  the boy was brought up as a catholic under the protection of the Pope in the final years of his pontifical rule of the extended Papal State. This was a cause celebre of mid-nineteenth century European politics and the domestic and international outrage against the pontifical state’s actions may have contributed to its downfall amid the unification of Italy. This is an incredible story of real historical relevance.

The film will shoot in Europe beginning in January of 2017.

    CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:
BOY, age 6-9 to play 6 years old--This is a unique and very challenging part for a truly special boy. The story deals with the complexity of the an extremely intelligent and gifted child’s situation - his desire to return to his family and the faith of his ancestors pitted against his ability to learn the catechism and engage with the Pope on a level far beyond his years. He should appear to be a Jewish Italian child, although we are not looking for any kind of Italian accent.

    HOW TO AUDITION:
Please feel free to forward this email and people can respond directly to edgardocasting.ny@gmail.com with a recent photo along with their NAME, AGE, and WHAT CITY THEY ARE BASED OUT OF. No previous experience is necessary to audition.

We will be auditioning for the role through the month of July, so if your school/camp/program has any stand out children, we'd love to hear from them as soon as possible.
Please let us know if you have any questions, and thank you in advance for your help in spreading the word.

33 & 1/3 CORNELIA STREET Monday, JUNE 6th @ 9 PM Howl! Gallery, 6 E. 1st St., East Village, Free Admission

Howl! Festival “Beat & Beyond 2016” Presents

33 & 1/3 CORNELIA STREET
A staged reading of a new play by Alvin Eng

Featuring Bob Holman as Joe Gould, Mink Stole as Alice Neel
with Lulu Fogarty, Paul Gigante, Carlo Fiorletta and Matthew Maguire

Monday, JUNE 6th  @  9 PM
Howl! Gallery, 6 E. 1st St., East Village, Free Admission

The Howl! Festival—celebrating the artistry and legacy of Allen Ginsberg—will present a staged reading of 33 & 1/3 CORNELIA STREET at the newly renovated Howl! Gallery at 6 East First St, NYC, on Monday, June 6 at 9 PM. Alternating between Bohemian Greenwich Village and a 1970s Women's Studies lecture by accidental feminist icon and painter Alice Neel, the play dramatizes the conflicts of spiritual vs. commercial ownership of art and personal stories. 33 & 1/3 Cornelia Street explores the conjoined legacy of urban legend/proto-Beat poet Joe Gould and celebrated New Yorker journalist Joseph Mitchell through the vortex of Neel's groundbreaking 1933 portrait of Gould. Mitchell immortalized Gould in a 1942 The New Yorker profile for writing the longest book ever written and the first oral history—or did he? Later, Mitchell published a second profile, “Joe Gould’s Secret,” claiming Gould’s opus to be a hoax…or was it?

For the Howl! reading, Joe Gould will be played by Bob Holman,
poet, Bowery Poetry founder and PBS Language Matters host. Alice Neel will be played by the legendary Mink Stole, featured in all of John Waters' films. The cast will also feature Obie Award winner Matthew Maguire as Joseph Mitchell,

Paul Gigante as Ken Doolittle, Carlo Fiorletta as Minetta Tavern bartender and Lulu Fogarty as Younger Alice Neel. Dramaturg is Wendy Wasdahl.

With the recent publication of Jill Lepore’s new book, “Joe Gould’s Teeth” (based on her New Yorker profile of the same name—marking the third time Gould has been featured in The New Yorker), as well as Thomas Kunkel’s 2015 biography, “Joseph Mitchell: Man in Profile,” and with Alice Neel a perennial for exhibitions, the play is play very timely and we look forward to a future full production.

Admission is free, seating is first come, first served. For more info: Howl Festival website or call 917.475.129 Alvin’s website

Spring Launch

We are going to use the fact that the change in an object's kinetic energy is equal to the work done on it by external forces. Initially, the ball is at rest, so its kinetic energy is zero. In the final state, the ball has reached its maximum height so the kinetic energy is zero there as well. Thus the net work done on the ball by external forces must be zero.
There are two forces acting on the object: gravity and the spring force. The spring force acts in the direction of motion, so that it speeds up the object and does work. The amount of work that it does is Ws=12k(Δy)2
. On the other hand gravity acts in the direction opposite to velocity, and so it contributes a negative work. The work due to gravity is Wg=mg(hmax+Δy).
For the total work to be zero we must have Ws=Wg
or 12k(Δy)2=mg(hmax+Δy). Solving for hmax, we find hmax=k2mg(Δy)2Δy=Δy(kΔy2mg1).

30 One-Sentence Improv Lessons Anybody Can Practice To Live A Happier Life

Improvisational comedy is a form of theater in which everything is made up on the spot. The characters, plot, setting, and all other aspects of the story are being created in that very moment, never to be repeated again. Most performers make it look easy, but improv actually takes years of practice, diligence, and stage time. And while the curriculum being taught in classes and rehearsals is specific to improv, the lessons can all be applied to everyday life – and, if practiced, can lead you to an existence that is more engaging, more fulfilling, and all around happier. Here are 30 of those lessons.
1. The most important thing is to be truthful.
2. Vulnerability makes you strong, not weak.
3. Listen to the person in front of you, instead of thinking about what you’re going to say next.
4. Say what you feel.
5. Mean what you say.
6. Nothing is as infectious as watching joyful people do what they love.
7. When you make others look good, you look good.
8. Go after that which scares you the most; it’s your heart trying to tell you something.
9. Get out of your head and live in this very moment.
10. Be kind, even to those you cannot stand.
11. It’s more important to be sincere than it is to be funny.
12. Open your eyes and pay attention to the world around you – that will greatly improve your work, no matter what it is that you do for a living.
13. Putting other people down will not make you look better.
14. In fact, putting other people down will get you nowhere.
15. Ultimately, all that any of us want is to connect with others.
16. Don’t put people into boxes; a powerful CEO can be (or be played on stage by) anyone – a straight white man, a gay Latina woman, a young African American transgender woman, the possibilities are endless.
17. Every person you meet has something to teach you.
18. It is okay that others will be better than you at certain things; you will also be better than them at certain things.
19. Don’t waste energy trying to turn other people into your competition.
20. The majority of people are rooting for you, not against you.
21. And the ones rooting against you are probably doing so because of some deep-rooted conflict within themselves.
22. Everyone else’s opinions and experiences are equally as important as yours.
23. Don’t be an ass; no one wants to spend time on stage, or in real life, with an ass.
24. Listen more than you speak.
25. Maintain a culture of acceptance with the company you keep.
26. Spend less time overthinking, and more time simply being.
27. Criticizing other people’s ideas only makes you a tiresome presence to be around.
28. Every mistake is a gift.
29. Practice mindfulness – be conscious of every decision and choice that you make.
30. Lean on people you trust; they will always take care of you
